Christmas care

Christmas care

*Christmas care*

I loved my new home. The love I got was more, compared to the divided attention of my former owner.
My new family was welcoming, especially the kids. They always checked on me and brought me food and water regularly.
It was barely three days yet I felt like I was getting fatter, as I pondered over my fortune.

It was not until that fateful morning that I got a shocking revelation.
The last kid of the house got up really excited and went about repeating a particular phrase, “Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas!” I didn’t understand him but I was glad he was happy. My gladness soon turned to terror as I heard his next line to his mother—”Mummy, I want to kill the chicken”. “No!” She replied, “you can’t kill it, it’ll run away”. Then she called out to her first boy, “Junior! Go and kill the chicken.”

I sat there in that empty secluded room, hearing death calling from afar, Shivering.
As the dry harmattan wind blew against my feathers to expose my skin, I realised exactly what they fell in love with—my meat!
